Convocation Notes: June 14, 2022
OLD BUSINESS 2-of land restrictions Beasts Got more feedback– watching groups, there is a feeling of “what is PAC’s role in the OS community?”– started from the 2-of format discussion – seems like it would make us a joke format– things like unrestricted recall and plague rats are fun, but not huge deals– going to 2-of breaks a common expectation about 4-of and 1-of– who even plays PAC – Spawners had a major event and didn’t play PAC rules– what things can you do to keep it fresh?– maybe PAC should focus more on having fun events, and less on the rule set– should we capitalize on the great events…

Convocation 10 (Zoom) February 1, 2022 Attendees: Beasts of the Bay (Jeremy) Deep Spawners (Andy) Emerald Trolls (Shawn) Clerk (Scott) Notes: OLD BUSINESS 2-of Restrictions – Factory, Workshops, Maze, & Strip Beasts – polarized responses among group One group wants to experiment while others won’t play with the change Spawners – also varied opinions Few strong opinions of no change while others willing to try If they had to vote would have to say no Trolls – would be for it Currently trying it out at biweekly meetups and no issues yet Similar to ATL where it opens up the brew space with less colorless auto-includes Best if all groups…

Convocation 9 (Zoom) November 4, 2021 Attendees: Beasts of the Bay (Jeremy) Deep Spawners (Andy) Emerald Trolls (Shawn) The Horde (Cam) OLD BUSINESS Proxies No one has any issues about proxies at meetups – this is about tournaments Official PAC position: leave it up to the TO’s, no official position. If/when prices keep going up, we’ll revisit them then. Done with this topic for now Beasts: Didn’t hear anyone who raised concerns around Chalice (though it’s obv different than say Vegas) Spawners: Have had discussions about security – a few of their members are in this line of work There was one comment from someone about an event who didn’t…

PAC Rules Updates
The Plague Continues… As 2020 continues to progress it’s been an interesting year for Old School Magic. Events have been cancelled, bars have been closed, in-person play has been almost non-existent. All this being said, the community continues to thrive and online play and webcam tournaments have flourished during this season. During OSPC Convocation 6, there was much discussion on the current state of the format and ways to continue to progress and promote the Old School flavor and play. You can read the minutes for deeper discussion; however, we’d like to announce two new additions to the PAC format. Mana Clash as a New Tiebreaker!! This one is a…

Convocation Notes: 11/12/2020
Convocation 6 (Meets) November 12, 2020 Attendees: Beasts of the Bay (Mith) Deep Spawners (Brian) Desert Twisters (Justin) Emerald Trolls (Shawn) Fallen Angels (Brian) Horde (Aaron) Clerk (Jeremy) Topic 1: City in a Bottle Trolls – generally cool with how it is. Can be annoying at times, but not too crazy (counterbalance dibs and arabian aggro) FA – same as above. More of an annoying card, but nothing egregious to make a change Twister – Good with leaving as is – no problems with the card Spawners – 1-2 people interested in restricting, but the last few major tournaments the top decks had a lot of AN cards, juzams, etc.…

Shahrazad Unrestricted
B&R for several common Old School formats PAC has conferred with our respective clubs to reassess our earlier decision to restrict Shahrazad. Following these discussions, PAC has decided to remove Shahrazad from the restricted list. While there were several reasons for this change, chief among them were (a) the collection of additional feedback from members; (b) the lack of occurrences of use of Shahrazad specifically as a match-stalling strategy; and (c) a desire to let people play the cards they want to play whenever that is not problematic.
