OLD BUSINESS

Proxies

No one has any issues about proxies at meetups – this is about tournaments

Official PAC position: leave it up to the TO’s, no official position. If/when prices keep going up, we’ll revisit them then. Done with this topic for now

Beasts:

• Didn’t hear anyone who raised concerns around Chalice (though it’s obv different than say Vegas)

Spawners:

• Have had discussions about security – a few of their members are in this line of work
• There was one comment from someone about an event who didn’t want to go because they were allowing proxies

Trolls:

• Similar. Let the TO’s decide, no one cares about casual events

Horde:

• Very casual, not much IRL stuff, online stuff is pro-proxy (it doesn’t really matter)
• Can understand people not wanting proxies IRL
• Alters/nice proxies are better than sharpied plains

COVID/Safety

Still need to add disclaimer to the website – Shawn to take as action item

IRL events

Beasts:

• Chalice debrief
  • Went very well overall
  • Best thing about event: got 53 people together from across the country, no Covid cases – vax, testing, people being responsible leading into the event
  • People did get a little more relaxed as the event went on
  • People were reasonable about following rules and being safe

Trolls:

• Puget Sound Battleground
  • OS event – 18 people
  • Premodern – 12 people
  • Multiple people skipped because the event was within a larger event with no vax requirement, and was an event drawing from the larger Magic community

• Planning event March 18-19 2022 – vax required

Spawners

• TOs can help decide what is appropriate for their event

Horde:

• Starting to get to events – lots of people have younger kids, want to be safe
• LGS is starting to try and help organize/motivate
• Had smaller event at rented house in the beach

2-of Restriction

Horde:

• Ran “double dragon” event with some 2-of restrictions – 40 people, went very well
  • Factory
  • Workshop
  • Maze
  • CiaB
  • Wheel
  • Channel
  • Errata orcs to goblins
• People didn’t care much about the 2-of rule – people felt it was basically the same as restricting things
• 4 channel seems like it was fine – people didn’t get CFB’d all the time (though it was only a 2-of)
  • Channel mind twist was maybe more problematic thant channel fireball
• Big tournament in Jan called CamJam – going to unrestrict Channel for this
• Wheel as a 2-of – seemed too broken, lots of complaints – created a lot of noise for the other things
• Limiting to 2-of, for factory especially, didn’t cause many problems
  • Think about factory and workshop
• Strip mine: if factory, shop, etc. limited to 2, most feedback said also restrict strip to 2
• Field was more casual
• Like the idea of unrestricting channel – does someone go 8-0 with it?
• Tome was also on 2-of – a person playing the deck with 2 tomes and 2 factories went 0-4
• Mano and Lemke went 1-2 with orc/goblins and 4 psychic purges
• Think the ideas that are in play are:
  • Factory limited to a 2-of, possibly with strip, shops, maze
  • Unrestricted channel
• Plague rats – seemed fine, not overpowered
• Orc to goblin errata – fine for a once-a-year type event
• Factory has been dominant, so nice not to see so many of them running around
• This is our hobby, we should have fun

Spawners

• Andy played – matches he was in were very fun
• Had a lot of fun – didn’t win a bunch, but had a lot of fun
• What about regrowth and tutor as a 2-of?
  • (discussion): might have to make other changes, because regrowth/tutor are actually copies of other cards in the deck

Beasts

• Busy with Chalice so haven’t talked about it much, but there is definitely a sense of staleness people are working through
• Maybe 2-of’s or some of these changes would help mix it up some and be interesting – not sure if we should start with an aggressive list or a conservative one
• Would be nice to further develop what is unique in the PAC ruleset

Trolls

• Willing to run new rules for March event
• Maybe try these rules in Jan?
  • Unrestricted channel
  • 2-of factory/strip/shop/maze

MOTION: Spawners propose unrestrict channel and 2-of factory/strip/shop/maze. Horde seconded. Automatically tabled to next meeting so people can collect feedback. Will vote next time.

• Should we get outside feedback, maybe from Mano and DFB? Might be a good barometer check, but we mainly want to do what’s right for our groups. We just want a temperature check, is it completely crazy or not. Cam to check in

NEW BUSINESS

Rivalry Matches:

Spawners

• Did anyone talk about it yet?
  • Trolls: not yet
• Generated a BUNCH of excitement within their group
• Less about the trophy, and more about the excitement of having rivalries – something to play for

Beasts

• Creates a broader sense of purpose – why is it important to be part of PAC
• At IRL events – do some kind of best-of-4, single elim event

Horde

• Could do weighted average finishes, and each group wins points for how they did
• Give people mascot cards
• Could do bounty cards

ACTION: Collect feedback, might do at the Troll’s march event

PAC Recruitment: Dudes of Paradise

Beasts:

• Ken and Eli, great guys – should consider

Trolls

• Awesome guys – said they wouldn’t be big enough to be able to vote
• Maybe the rivalry tournament is a reason for them to join PAC even if they will only be affiliates?

Charity Auction

Beasts:

• Do we want to do this? When? It was a fair amount of work, but was very successful
• Would we change anything?
