Convocation Notes

Convocation Notes: 3/4/2020

Pacific Old School Council

Convocation 4  (Hangouts)

March 4, 2020

Attendees:

Horde (Aaron)

Deep Spawners (Brian)

Emerald Trolls (Shawn)

Beasts of the Bay (Mith)

Clerk (Jeremy)

Group Updates:

Beasts: chalice went well. Looking to book the same place again next year. Group wants to revisit Shahrazad

Spawners: on the radar – wanted to discuss ways to deal with no ties, specifically Divine Intervention. How to handle specifically what happens in case of tie.

Do you go to orb flips for each game? Then for the match? You can build a deck to stall and playing to tie just to force orb flips

Keep this as an observation to see if a problem forms. Is there some type of slow-play concern?

Shahrazad:

Potentially maybe not the timing issue that it could be. Did we preemptive ban?

ACTION: Trolls and Beasts and spawners suggest bringing it back to the group for discussion and reconsideration. To discuss at the next meeting

City in a Bottle:

Horde: is this a problem in same bad spirit? Is potentially proposing to restrict

Trolls: can see the disruption since it an easy “hoser” card for two mana similar to blood moon and energy flux

Spawners: no issues with CiaB specifically, but more with Gloom. It’s a good combatant against things like Shahrazad. Do you promote too much Arabian aggro, which is too fast?

Beasts: Bottle is a balancing card. You dramatically speed up the decks. RUG becomes the de facto best deck. Happy to have a conversation

ACTION: take back to groups to discuss

Voting:

Plague Rats: All 5 groups vote yes on Limitless Plague Rats

*potential errata to zombie subtype? ACTION: take it back to groups for flavor

Rules go live when published on website

Mishra’s factory:

Nay: Trolls, Spawners, Beasts, DT

Aye: Horde

Feedback from Winter Derby? Ask around.

Mith will still get the feedback from Jaco on the emptying of the mana pool. DFB is on board with proposal.

Mith reconfirmed as Chairperson for 2020 since he has not served a full year. We will continue to vote a new Chairperson at the first meeting of 2021.

Is PAC different enough? We are here for to serve our groups first and foremost, not trying to build any ego.

Look into other groups to help expand. Have some discussion at the Desert Showdown. Also look at discussion for affiliate groups.

For GP Vegas possibly consider a PAC event to market and bring together our philosophy.

Spawners: Possible tiebreaker addition instead of orb flips…. mana clash coin flips. If round goes to time and there is no winner. You and target opponent each flip a coin. Mana Clash deals 1 damage to each player whose coin comes up tails. First one to 5 dmg loses

ACTION: Mana Clash as a possible tiebreaker available to old school games. Something easy and non stressful
